The design begins with the case, metal band loop, and buckle ion-plated in lustrous copper, and then adds yellow, green, and red, the national colors of Hachimura’s ancestral home of Benin, to the hands, dial and cloth band loops. After graduating from Meisei High School in Miyagi in 2016, Hachimura attended Gonzaga University in the United States. As a member of the Gonzaga University basketball team, he became the first Japanese national to play in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament. Hachimura received the 2018-2019 Julius Erving Award, which recognizes the top men’s collegiate small forwards of the year. He made history when he became the first Japanese-born player ever to be chosen in the NBA Draft, going to the Washington Wizards as the ninth overall pick. In his rookie season, Hachimura played in 48 of 72 games, and his stellar performance earned him a spot on the second-team NBA All-Rookie Team. The 23-year-old stands 203 centimetres tall and weighs in at 104 kilograms.
